Some of you have already spotted that there is now a mobile version of e-Science Central and I want to write a few words about it. It started life as a demonstration of how to use the e-Science Central API for a collaboration project. It's a completely separate application from e-Science Central, only using the public API and no internal methods only available to us as core developers. It happens to be hosted on the same server but it could be moved to a completely separate server, there is no co-location requirement.
The functionality is currently limited to two functions:
We know there are limitations and there are almost certainly some bugs (I think there is one related to the session timing out for example). If you have any specific problems please let me know. It's been tested mainly on an iPhone but it's known to work on Android and Nokia E71 (mobile Opera I think). The latter two platforms haven't been tested as much.
Two main limitations (with the existing functionality) is that there is no access to shared data or workflows and no access to files that are in subdirectories. The limitations are mostly due to limitations in the API. We've developed a newer version of the API that includes more functionality but this hasn't been deployed yet. When it is, the functionality of the mobile application will be updated to reflect the changes.
Eventually we would like to add more functionality, for example, access to blogs, news, file properties, uploading data, monitoring workflows and so on. When this data is available in the API we'll consider adding it to the mobile application (essentially we'll do it, subject to time constraints).
If you'd like to give the mobile application a go, you need to subscribe to the application (and give it the required permissions)

Once you've subscribed you can log into the mobile application here:
Well slappa my thighs! I get inkspot on my mobile. How sad is that??
Love it. Great example of not just mobile access, but also use of the API. And calling from other hosts!
Where's the client (either java or .net) are we makig it available with docs????
Totally mega-shagadelic.
oops
don't see my folders -- just top level files.
Still mega shagadelic though
er and refresh button doesn't seem to work on my bberry. I picked a workflow to run, it asked fro file it now shows status as running but cant refress
even so ...
oops 2
You said I can't see sub-folders. I didn't read. Its a feature, not a bug.
Nevertheless, still ....
Glad you like it!
The API is currently only available by talking to us although we will make it more widely available with documentation soon.
When we deploy a new version of the API you'll be able to see folders and shared data/workflows...
Will investigate blackberry issues.
